About Sarah
For many years I misused alcohol. In my twenties it was fun, by my middle thirties it became a coping mechanism, a very dangerous and deeply upsetting one not only for myself but for all those who loved me. The wheels fell completely off as I approached 42, and my late husband arranged for me to go into a rehab. I stopped drinking, but I did not start living without the booze defining me. Constantly I felt very resentful and uncomfortable around others who seemed to be able to ‘just have one’.
That began my research and studying to find a better way to be sober and not feel as if I was serving some sort of miserable life sentence. Harrogate Sanctuary opened in 2010 after studying for my qualifications in both CBT and Addiction Counselling, I began to see clients locally. In 2013 I wrote the Sober Revolution and The Six Week Plan, which I devised. Both were best sellers, and this led to a much larger demographic and a worldwide client base.
Since the books were published, Harrogate Sanctuary has evolved and I have gained many more skills and expertise having seen and counselled not only women, but their families and partners.
My methods are far from mainstream, tailored to individual needs. I work with what suits the client, and each programme is unique. I offer a free one hour consultation in the first instance, there is never any point having therapy unless I click with the client and visa versa. I offer long term rehabilitation, recovery, well being and a much smarter way of not being defined by alcohol for all my clients. To do this, the client sets timings and a schedule which suits them, so the programmes are as non disruptive as possible.
